Mel discovered a passion for painting during the countless hours of lockdown in Melbourne. While undertaking a series of online art classes, she started to experiment with paint and colour at the end of long and busy days. Mixing colour, splashing paint, lying in bed thinking about the next stroke and shape fast became a much needed creative outlet.
Buying bunches of fresh natives, taking pictures during walks and runs along the Yarra River continues to provide a reprieve from restrictions and inspiration for my art.
For many years Mel has been a visual story teller working as a television journalist for the Nine and Ten networks. She also works full time as a content creator, and has a keen eye on composition and detail.
Mel’s two children Lola and Lachie are her harshest but most valued critics. She enjoys discussing their feedback and channelling their playfulness and love of bold colours. Her husband Nick is also a great supporter and is often dragged into the late night “do you think it's finished yet” discussion.
Her fun, carefree, colourful and sometimes moody approach to art is reflected in her floral pieces. While Mel is well versed in the vibrant visual production industry, she is a budding artist and looks forward to sharing her originals and prints.
